Artist’s Statement

I attended the National Art School, Sydney in 1978/79/80 and again in 1985. I have been a member of The Sculptors Society since 1986 and served on the committee for 11 years with 9 as treasurer. I have held various teaching positions including at the National Art School, TAFE, and Community Art Centres. I have been involved in numerous art committees such as the Potters Society, Innercity Clayworkers Co-operative Gallery, Artworkers Union and the Manly Public Art Committee. Commencing in 1979 I have exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and had 2 solo exhibitions in 1988 and 1997. I exhibited in Sculpture by the Sea in 2007. I have received commissions and I am in collections such as Macquarie University School of Management and the Collectionale Dantesca, Ravenna, Italy.

During 28 years of sculptural practice I have explored sculptural expression in many materials including steel, aluminium, bronze, copper, wood, ceramic, concrete, glass, resin, sandstone and limestone. I utilise the material which best reflects the commission, installation or my current thematic exploration. My personal preference is for bronze due to the tactile quality of the lost wax process and the longevity of the material in our harsh environment. The lost wax process of bronze allows ideas to be explored in small maquettes to be later enlarged and further developed for more monumental works.

My work has evolved thematically over the years reflecting interests and ideas in both abstract and figurative genres mostly inspired by art historical contexts, society and nature.

I undertake private and public commissions.
